Community Investments Announces Nashua Lecture Series

COMMUNITY INVESTMENTS ANNOUNCES
NASHUA LECTURE SERIES

Basketball, women in journalism and global diplomacy will kick off the series

Nashua, NH—Community Investments is proud to announce the inaugural 2024 Nashua Community Lecture Series. The series will be held at the Nashua Center for the Arts and will feature nationally renowned speakers covering a dynamic range of topics.

Community Investments is a new company founded by Jim Rafferty conceived to continue the advancement of the cultural and entertainment aspects of the Greater Nashua community by providing interesting and intellectual programs for its citizens. As Rafferty and his wife Sarah said when they and their partners sold their popular Nashua businesses, the River Casino & Sports Bar and The Lucky Moose Casino & Tavern, last Spring of 2023, "We are dedicated to giving back to our community of Nashua and the greater region. We did so with our charity casino business over the last 17 years and will continue that great tradition as we develop Community Investments."

The lecture series will kick off on Thursday, August 29th with highly praised author David Hollander, who wrote “How Basketball Can Save the World”, released last year. An Assistant Dean and clinical professor with the Tisch Institute for Global Sport at New York University, Hollander explores the global phenomena of basketball and how its values can help solve today’s most pressing issues. Miami Heat forward Duncan Robinson, New Hampshire’s own, will introduce Hollander at the event.

“We decided to open our series with Professor David Hollander and the importance of basketball in our culture, and how basketball can further benefit our local, state and country's culture,” Rafferty said.  “Hollander makes a potent argument that some of the guiding principles of basketball could and should be rolled over to bigger societal lessons, with concepts like ‘Cooperation', ‘Gender Inclusivity’ and ‘No Barrier to Access’—all basketball realities.  Whether you are a basketball fan or not, you’re invited to think about the possibilities.”

The series will be held at the Nashua Center for the Arts.  “This building was built for programs like this; if you have not had an opportunity to go this will be a great opportunity,” Rafferty noted.

The series will continue on October 17th with one of America’s most trusted journalists, Jane Pauley, whose trail-blazing career has spanned more than five decades, and on November 3rd will feature Ambassador John Sullivan.  Ambassador Sullivan has served both Republican and Democrat Administrations in positions including U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and Ambassador to the Russian Federation.
